  • India Moves Toward Stricter IT Compliance Framework for Tech Companies

India is taking a significant step toward strengthening digital governance by proposing stricter compliance rules for major technology companies. The government is planning to make its IT advisories legally binding, requiring platforms to act swiftly on flagged content and regulatory instructions.

Under the proposed changes, companies may be required to remove flagged content within a much shorter time frame—potentially as little as three hours. Non-compliance could lead to the loss of legal protections currently available under safe harbor provisions.

This move reflects India’s increasing focus on data security, misinformation control, and digital accountability. As digital adoption grows across sectors, ensuring responsible use of technology has become a national priority.

For enterprises and IT solution providers, this shift signals a growing need for:

  • Stronger cybersecurity frameworks
  • Compliance-ready IT infrastructure
  • Advanced monitoring and reporting systems

Organizations working with government projects (B2G) will especially need to align their systems with evolving regulatory expectations.
